About
Because we believe community should be something we experience, not something we only remember during special occasions.
Our story
For more than two decades, Prisca Lisanga, founder of Lisanga Space, has called America home. Along the way, she noticed something simple: outside of birthdays, weddings, funerals and other major life events, there were fewer opportunities for people to gather simply because they wanted to.
To connect. To talk. To learn, share, laugh, debate, and enjoy being together.
Lisanga is a Lingala word: gathering, togetherness, unity.
From a kitchen table to a bigger vision
Prisca often found herself surrounded by young adults, where conversations about life, faith, culture, careers, money, relationships and current events naturally turned into lively discussions.
That led her to create Tasty Talks, a small gathering that grew into a welcoming space over nearly four years. People came to share perspectives, ask questions, seek advice, and simply be themselves. And, of course, there was always food.
As Prisca likes to say, you can't have good debates on an empty stomach.
Tasty Talks showed her what can happen when people have a welcoming place to gather. And it sparked a bigger question: what if more people had a place like this?
From Tasty Talks to Lisanga Space
Prisca began imagining a space where Africans across cultures, languages and generations could come together, not only for special occasions, but simply because they belong. A place to share experiences, discover ideas, build relationships, learn from one another and create something together.
Inspired by her name, Lisanga, a Lingala word meaning gathering, togetherness and unity, the vision became Lisanga Space.
Today, Lisanga Space is a bilingual space for Africans living in America, bringing people together through conversations, experiences, learning, wellness, networking and giving back. What began around a kitchen table became something much bigger.
The heart of Lisanga Space existed long before the name: in the conversations, the shared meals, the laughter, the questions, the connections, and the simple act of opening a door and saying, come in.
Come in. There is a place for you here.
You don't need an occasion to belong. Come as you are. Bring your story, your culture, your ideas and your willingness to connect. There is room at the table.
